American paratroopers are tasked with cutting off German units from moving toward the beaches during the invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky, 1943).
We all agreed, once the scenario had wrapped up, that 3 players was incredibly fun and offers a new ASL play experience to players who have used the system for years and decades.
Purpose designed three player scenarios are rare in Advanced Squad Leader. Almost any scenario can be adapted to be multi-player where one player takes control of the armor of the side he’s playing on, or takes control of reinforcements coming on board.
For this scenario we dive into Action Pack #16, and play ANZAC Boys, a scenario where the Commonwealth ANZACs try to repulse the invading Germans on the island of Crete during Operation Merkur (Mercury).
The 4th Armored Brigade, probing northeast of Gabr Saleh, was driving a German recon unit before it. The Afrika Korps at last reacted, quickly forming several units of the 21st Panzer Division into Kampfgruppe Stephan.
Before the 8th Army could launch its assault on the Mareth Line, it had to clear the Axis outposts between the Wadi Zeuss and the Wadi Zigzaou. One of these, held by veterans of the 90th Light Division, encompassed a group of small hills appropriately named the “Horseshoe” by the British.
Scott and I decided to venture to the island of Sicily and play a scenario from Advancing Fire’s new historical effort, Biazza Ridge (BR), focusing on battles during Operation Husky, the allied invasion of that island in July of 1943.

The Biazza Ridge maps are beautiful and historically accurate. The problem with this scenario, at least from our perspective of one playing, is that it appears to heavily favor the Americans.
