Stew’s Replays: Retaking Vierville (S1)

Here’s the historical situation:

Date: June 7, 1944 (D-Day)
Location:
Vierville, France (Normandy)
Attacker:
Germans – 1058th Grenadier Regiment/919th Grenadier Regiment/6th Fallschirmjäger Regiment
Defender: Americans – 1st Batt. 506th PIR, 101st Airborne

Vierville, which lay a few miles inland from Utah Beach, had been liberated on D-Day. On the morning of June 7, elements of the 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR moved out from Vierville towards St. Come du Mont, leaving Vierville virtually unoccupied. The Germans took this opportunity to launch a series of counterattacks on Vierville in hopes of cutting the road to St. Come du Mont.

It’s the day after D-Day and American forces are pushing inland from Utah Beach. Vierville was a major focal point for the movement of both Allied and Axis troops following the invasion. It needed to be capture.

Here I highlight the first two turns of Retaking Vierville using an alternative to VASL, Tabletop Simulator, that’s available on Steam.
