Second Front has been out for a week now, and I’ve read lots of complaints from people who think the computer AI has an unfair advantage, especially during defensive reaction fire. But my belief is that most of the complaints come from players not understanding the basis of the combat system, which is clearly one that is near and dear to us … Advanced Squad Leader!

In this short video I’m going to show new players how defensive reaction works in Second Front (and in ASL), and how they can use it to their advantage during the Move & Fire Phase of the game. I also touch on how terrain can affect fire against your units as you move them around the map. Additionally, this video can actually be helpful for new ASL players to visualize how Defensive First Fire principles work.

So no, the AI is not cheating when it tears your units to shreds while moving. It’s simply a matter of understanding the mechanics and leveraging them for your gain!

Check it out.
