Jatkosota: Finland’s Continuation War for ASL is an unofficial Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) scenario pack published by Critical Hit in 1996. It was one of Critical Hit’s early themed ASL ‘modules’ and focuses on the combat between Finnish, Soviet, and (later in the war) German forces during the Continuation War period of World War II.
The title, Jatkosota, is derived from Finnish: “jatko”=sequel/continuation, “sota”=war.
Although not a full ASL module with mounted mapboards, Jatkosota provides a focused set of historical engagements that let players explore the unique terrain, tactics, and national forces of the Continuation War period. The scenarios vary in length and tactical challenge, portraying forested battles, strongpoints, and flank actions.

The counter artwork and presentation were deliberately styled to distinguish them from “official” Avalon Hill/MMP ASL products.
Contents
- 8 scenarios depict a variety of actions from the Eastern Front involving Finnish, Soviet, and German troops. Six focus on Finnish–Soviet clashes, one on a German–Soviet engagement, and one on Finnish–German co‑operation or fighting depending on the scenario context.
- A 12‑page historical booklet, offering background on the Continuation War and context for the scenarios.
- A page of Chapter H notes covering variant vehicle and single‑man counters included for play.
- ~40 unmounted counters, including new Finnish, Soviet, and German pieces and a special Major Tapio leader counter put in by Ray Tapio himself (of course, because narcissism is a thing).
