I love WW11 history and was vaguely aware that you could re-enact famous battles by moving little pieces of cardboard around on a map. I looked around at on the net an found ASL, it seemed to fit the bill and was well regarded. I bought the starter kit, and dutifully sorted the counters and obtained a plastic try to store them. The rules are deliciously Byzantine and a bit intimidating, I went a bit tharn at first asking myself why I am performing this silly task, is this fun? Set up RETAKING VIERVILLE and am plodding slowly through the battle. Head spinning a bit. Tutorial on youtube are helping a lot.
I am persevering and hopefully will be keeping the jeep on the road.

I had played ASL when it was first released and then had a hiatus and forgot it all. On my return I played through the Starter Kit games, each time with the looming question "what do I add next?", while trying to deal with the current scenario rules. I found the videos very useful in prompting my recall and understanding of the rules. On more than a couple of occasions I fell into the trap of misunderstanding a rule, using my bad rule, then having to relearn those rules. Consequently I don't consider any of the early games I "won" as anything other than humorous out-takes fit for a blooper reel.
