Kohlenklau's games with a buddy AAR summary

One day when I get more organized I will start taking notes on my games. I do have a collection of VASL saves which can be entertaining to wonder how I ended up in such bad positions.

I am actually try to up it a notch and this week my buddy and I will start to create a VASL battle tracking sheet or whatever you'd call it.

Some type of way to BETTER capture the fun moments, turn by turn - phase by phase in simple columns.
with a system to record if we got any snake-eyes or boxcars. Critical hits. weird things, odd rules we had to stop and research.
Maybe as an excel spreadsheet with fields locked except where entries go.

I will share it here after we iron it out

I have a rough format created in a spreadsheet. We are in a battle but will use the spreadsheet NEXT battle.
After we use it a few times and finalize it, I will share it with a dropbox link.

02 October 2023 PATTON'S GHOST (Gary as US/Phil as North Koreans) Phil won. Gary had racked up 15 VP of the 20 required for victory. A very exciting game. I activated two suicide heroes of the 4 allowed. We will play this same scenario but in my Combat Mission Korea Mod in a few days.

16 October 2023 THE ROCK OF CHICKAMAUGA (Phil as US/Gary as North Koreans) Gary won. Gary had racked up only 5 VP of the 20 required for victory. A very exciting game. But I captured the hill VP area but couldn't get 1 of the others required.

23 October 2023 REBEL's ROOST (Gary as US/Phil as North Koreans) Gary won. I charged my 2 tanks down at his infantry in the open trying for an overrun. Tank 1 has IFT 8+1 and I think it caused a morale check of the single squad and LMG. He rolled HoB and got hero and BH. He then attacked me and KO'd the tank with burning! Tank 2 came at 2 hexes and he shot a bazooka at me and had no result. I entered overrun hex and the counter was concealed. My attack was zilch. That MMC also had a bazooka and it then KO'd my tank. No flames this time. After that I was just slowly crushed and conceded in turn 6 of 7. We had lots of fun with mortars too. I tried entrenching more foxholes and it worked nicely. I would play this one differently NEXT time.

29 October 2023 COMMANDER FOR A DAY (Gary as NK/Phil as US) I won. I was able to KO one of his T-34/85's with a bazooka led by 10-2 Heroic Colonel Martin. RIP sir! I then held off several of his main counters from the railroad station. Later on might right flank, Sgt Christensen was killed and their bazooka was busted. Things looked bad but I rallied a squad that then was able to take one of the buildings back. I also ran a squad to grab anothr building just in case. He only had a broken squad in it after his leader was KIA. He did HoB create 2 heroes, Sgt Hyundai and Corporal Kia. They took the railroad station and he moved his last tank over there. The gun malfed and at the top of the final turn, his turn, he was not able to repair it, so he officially technically had then lost per VC. BUT WE PLAYED ON ANYWAY as we are friendly enemies! He attacked the second big building for close combat but failed to take it. I had the other 2 buildings and so the CC didn't even matter. I won! I will create this battle in my Combat Mission Korea Mod.

28 November 2023 BULLETS FOR BREAKFAST (Gary as NK/Phil as US) Gary won as I threw in the towel at turn 4. This has a lot of SSR and my luck was very poor in getting guns manned! I got maybe 1 or 2 shots off with my artillery to zilch effect. I was able to man 1 immobilized tank and 1 "runner". The 2-hex school building did ok for a while. Gary had excellent use of smoke with his 82mm mortars. He smoked my hexes facing him and was able to get a good stack in close. I did have a massive prep fire on my turn 3 I think. 36+ IFT. I had a K/4 result. That stack had to rout away. His reinforcements trucked in on T3. He had a LOT of snipers. One sniper wounded the Colonel but then die roll was a fatal wound. That stack all rolled a MC and broke. It was ugly and I said I conceded. I will TRY to recreate this battle in my Combat Mission Korea Mod.
