A long time ago read but never found... Miniature ASL

Hey mates,

I am very interested to pimp up my ASL-experience and build up some scenarios with MASL.
I love the idea by running along my 6mm Minis through kind of 3d woods and villages... but...

I am thinking about the LOS I cant keep 100% by using little buildings which are available at this scale, or simplyfied woodhexes.

So my first concrete question is if you have any experiences how such a huge change of LOS would change the gameply at the scenarios?

And a second more general question ist if you do have any experiences with MASL? Maybe some onine ressources you could share?

Thanks so far!

Piero

I don't have any experience with miniature ASL, but i have thought about it and the 2 perplexing things to me would be LOS and movement.

LOS is a very critical part of ASL and I have no idea how you would replicate that on a miniature table. How could players make judgement calls of when to take a shot or when to make a run for it? using boards you can usually get an idea at a glance, then whip out the string afterwards if it's really close.

Then movement. ASL is all about movement and fire. Unless the miniature table also has hexes I don't know how you're replicate movement, and if it would accurately reproduced the movement and fire system in ASL. Most miniature rules treat movement is king of abstract or fuzzy. guys holding sticks or tape measure, moving units approximate distances.

So, I have no real answer for you and than I seem to share the same concerns you have.

Have tried googling ASL miniature rules? If so, did you find anything? I know some people have tried it, so they had to have adapted the rules somewhat.

Thank you for your thoughts!

About the Movement-issue I would replicate the Hexgrid. It would be a lot of work, but I would like to handle it similar to the Command&Colour-System. That would make it flexible from map to map.
But it means at the same time that I prepare just one special scenario. And ye more scenarios I would prepare, ye more synergy-effects I would have.

For the LOS issue I have just two solutions: changing the whole system according to the new mapboard. And we dont know which effect it would have on the scenario!
Or take the original mapboard for LOS-checks... like the Officers are checking their maps in the field ;) .

I have also been dabbling with the idea of using miniatures, although with the regular boards. I'm wondering how you handle concealment with miniatures. Any ideas?

I think if I were you I would use the LOS from the original mapboards.
