50 cal HMG

Playing with a fairly experienced but old brained buddy. I am 58 and he is 67. My brain aint no better than his but he has years of ASL under his belt. Scenario is Mad Minute.

The HMG. We both scratched our heads and he couldn't quite recall how exactly to use the rules with it. We first used MG off the APTK chart and used 4 but now he says we should have used 12.7 and 5 as basic TK. Does the HMG get a Case D +2 DRM for <= 25mm AP at range 0-1? He said we WOULD get the +1 for attacks to the rear. I was shooting at his half-track flanks. The 4 minus 1 for armor was a tough roll. I had hit it but no effect for TK.
I know WW2 50 cal ammo had available API, armor piercing incendiary...

I will download the War Game Vault pdf rules next week...

Looking at Scenario 24 The Mad Minute, the American HMG is a .30 cal tripod mount, not a .50 cal.
The MG column gets the bonus at 0-1 hexes. The thing about the HMG is the rate number of 3. Rolling dice to get a 4 or 5 and doing it a few times (or more) makes one feel a lot better about shooting at weak armour.

Thanks John. oh boy. We obviously need the magnifying glasses to be handy. Yeah, my worthy opponent now kicks himself for not seeing the water jacket hose on the HMG .30 cal. I THOUGHT the counter was showing the OTHER end of the 50 cal with the shovel handles grip. No matter our bad eyes, the HMG .50 CLEARLY says ".50" but we goofed that.

yeah, we have a grand old time. we have the headsets on and talking via steam. We both have and use fairly constantly all the corny accents and funny stock jokes for every situation on the VASL battlefield. We're veteran opponents against each other over the years playing a lot of PBEMs of "combat mission" (CMRT, CMBN, CMFI) and lately LnL Tactical Digital (which is what helped spur on the recent leap to VASL).

I am trying to have some background system handy where I can trigger wav files for some simple set of sound effects. I have all the files but when I default to use my headset, he cannot hear the output, only my mic's input. I might use a handy cell phone instead. Just for fun.
