Bypass forest on a hill

Post by marv »

On board 8 a unit starting in V9 bypasses the forest in W9 along the W9-W10 hexside to X9.
Image
My question is how many MF does that require (2 or 3 MF), specifically is the unit considered to be on level 1 throughout the bypass movement or does the unit (because the bypass hexside is drawn on level 0) descend to level 0 and then back up to level 1 as part of the bypass movement and thus spend additional MF for the elevation change?
Note as per the picture assume that that the forest depiction does not touch the crest line.

What would the answer be if instead the forest touched the crest line?

OK. I think I have found the answers.

A4.34 If a unit is using Bypass (including VBM) along a Crest Line, and the obstacle it is Bypassing is on the higher level of that Crest Line, then the unit is also at that higher level (since a Crest Line cannot be Bypassed; 4.3)

So only 2 MF if the forest is only on level 1 and 3 MF if it crosses over to level 0.

You got the first part of the question right. The second part is a little more interesting, but I think you're right without digging much deeper.
