ASL Training With Stump
Welcome to “ASL Training With Stump,” a comic strip where the real enemy is the rulebook.
It’s a WWII comic strip built around a hopeless private and the sergeant stuck teaching him. Pvt. Stump means well and understands nothing; Sgt. Grognard has seen everything and is running out of patience to explain it — and between the two of them, every strip finds the intersection where battlefield chaos collides with the notorious rules of Advanced Squad Leader. Around them orbits a growing cast pulled from every theater of the war, each one dragging Stump’s lessons somewhere new.
It’s a strip you can read for Stump and Grognard’s odd-couple chemistry, come back for the war-nerd trivia, and stay for the moments that catch you off guard. And when you follow their travels, perhaps you’ll learn a thing or two about ASL!
Meet The Cast
General Statement on the Use of AI
Yes, AI is used to generate the drawings for ASL Training With Stump (because I can’t draw for shit), but nothing else. I write every idea, character, and script that is used as a prompt for each strip. Each script is around 400-500 words and follows a rigid structure to get consistent results. AI is not writing the story/text prompt, or writing the dialogue, or picking the subject, or developing the characters and their personalities, or choosing the rules to mock, or interpreting the rules. I use Photoshop to combine the art with the script (and to change/fix things in the art/setting).
AI is just a software tool used to complete tasks it’s given, just like an Excel script or a software compiler. If you feed it garbage, it will return garbage. If you feed it clearly defined criteria, it will fulfill that request. With image/context refinement and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) training, it can return even better results. So, yes, “AI slop” exists out there, but it’s generally low-effort, lazy, and/or uncreative. I always try to use AI in creative, constructive, and fun ways.
Thanks!

Lol I don’t care if some ai was used to make these. Adventures with Private Stump look like fun.
I’m loving this!
Not for nothing, but it would be funny if the manual said “Avanced” 🙂
