Advanced Squad Leader AAR: Knock Them Down! (StW-4)

Here’s the historical situation:

Date: July 11, 1944
Location:
Colombelles, France
Attacker:
British (153rd Infantry Brigade)
Defender: German (Jägerregiment 32, 16 Luftwaffenfelddivision)

The entire area was dominated by the smokestacks of the giant steel factory of Colombelles. These smokestacks were the ideal observation posts of the battlefield for the Germans. General Montgomery decided on an operation to knock them down, aptly called Operation Stack.

It’s been a fair bit since we did a video AAR, but we’re back in the saddle! Scott Rowland and I tackle the monster scenario ‘Knock Them Down!’ from LCP’s Steelworks module. We think it played out fairly close to history. The Highlanders were unable to dig out the well fortified Germans, and Tigers showed up early to wreak havoc on the British Shermans. The Highlanders slowly worked their way across the rubble and debris littered grounds of the steelworks but never seemed to get enough traction. They were able to get a foothold in the first ruined factory, but time ran out for them to blow up the smokestacks.

That would have to wait for another day…

.END OF BRIEFING.
