Advanced Squad Leader AAR – Retaking Vierville (S01)
Here’s the historical situation:
Date: June 7, 1944 (D-Day)
Location: Vierville, France (Normandy)
Attacker: Germans – 1058th Grenadier Regiment/919th Grenadier Regiment/6th Fallschirmjäger Regiment
Defender: Americans – 1st Batt. 506th PIR, 101st Airborne
Vierville, which lay a few miles inland from Utah Beach, had been liberated on D-Day. On the morning of June 7, elements of the 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR moved out from Vierville towards St. Come du Mont, leaving Vierville virtually unoccupied. The Germans took this opportunity to launch a series of counterattacks on Vierville in hopes of cutting the road to St. Come du Mont. — This is a great ASL introductory scenario. It involves using Infantry and Leaders counters, no support weapons and no ssrs.
Scott Rowland and I returned to the Advanced Squad Leader world after 25 years of not playing. We thought we would begin by playing some ASL Starter Kit scenarios. What better scenario to shake off the rust than Retaking Vierville, a village firefight the day after the landings in Normandy, France.
Sorry about the production quality, this was our first video AAR. The video quality has improved in later AARs.
Mistakes were made, but here’s how it went down …
